Author Oge Mora presentation

On Wednesday, March 12, 2025 180 third to fifth grade students at the Missituk Elementary School attended a presentation by Caldecott Honor winning author and illustrator Oge More. Librarian Colby Robbins along with PTO volunteers Christina McGorty and Caroline McGillen submitted a grant proposal to the Medford Educational Foundation proposing the author visit and noting how meaningful it would be to the students to meet and interact with an author. In preparation, students were introduced to Ms. More’s books.

Oge really connected with the students during the presentation. She showed photos of herself as a child and even shared some of her drawings from when she was in elementary school. One student asked her “Where do you get your ideas?” and she replied “IDEAS ARE EVERYWHERE!” This phrase was repeated multiple times by the author and students in tandem, a simple but critical point driven home throughout the talk.

Students were fully engaged as Oge explained her process of creating a picture book. She works largely with collage and the students had many questions about how she develops the final artwork for her books.
The MEF is proud to have sponsored this presentation at the Missituk along with the Arts Alive Medford Foundation. Opportunities like this are valuable to students but often out of reach for individual PTO’s. Please support the MEF so we can continue to provide this sort of programming for our Medford students!
