Three students we were able to represent Medford High School at the 2024 Massachusetts Invention Convention held in Hopkinton, MA. I drove the students using the MVTHS van that day. Lemelson-MIT also partnered with us to provide a consultant to mentor our progress and helped to my to adapt some their lesson plans and activities for my curriculum.
One student commented to me during their design process, that they felt that they used their brain in a way that they never had before, and that this class gave them a reason to engage with school. Students who went to the competition said that it gave them more confidence in their visual and verbal communication skills, while sharing a project that they cared deeply about, with a respected audience. I am grateful for the MEF’s support of my initiative. It validates my belief in the power of student-driven and project-based learning, as a vehicle for a rich and relevant learning experience.
