The students represented the countries of Estonia, Algeria and Uzbekistan and served in many diverse committees which ranged from General Assembly committees which included the World Intellectual Property, the World Health Organization, the Social Cultural and Humanitarian, and Economic and Financial Committee and these committees had between 150-300 students participating in them and our students held their own or performed better than their peers. Our students also served on the Council of Europe committee and smaller historical and contemporary crisis committees which dealt with the succession crisis of the Mughal Empire, a war in South America in 1878 and a contemporary scandal over tourism in the Maldives. The crisis committees were smaller committees of 25 students and Evan Russell, a MHS senior, won best delegate in the Mughal Succession crisis committee.
In addition to the time spent in their committees, students received a tour of the Pentagon and spoke with a press liaison and a colonel from the Arizona National Guard about defense issues facing the United States currently and they asked these officials some pretty tough questions about the current administration’s plans. Additionally, some of the students were able to explore the national mall area on Saturday morning before the conferences began. The Medford Model United Nations Club appreciates the administration’s continued support which allows us to expose our students to opportunities such as the NAIMUN Conference.
